Four strategies to a Less Busy (But More Fulfilling) Life

This week I talked about 4 strategies to a less busy and more fulfilling life.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I choose to use the word productive as opposed to busy.

How you speak to yourself is SO IMPORTANT!

It is the difference between being a peak performing entrepreneur and a lost spectator entrepreneur, which I talk about in my FREE Training.

When you feel busy, you feel overwhelmed, scattered, lost, and stressed to the point where all you can do is not to anything or do a little bit of everything that nothing actually gets done.

This is when you make the worst decisions, or worse, no decision at all.

You wanna feel unstoppable, confident, clear, positive, aligned to your purpose… all the things that let us make good, effective decisions and that let us feel the most joy while making the most out of our time.

#1 Take an inventory of your busy life.

As I was saying, when we’re busy we are far from productive because we’re just doing.

Have you ever just spent hours on your computer and then realize that you actually did nothing of what you said you were going to do?

It happens, and now it’s time to nip it!

I want you to reflect on the following questions and do a brain dump – get it all on paper with no judgement or thought… just get it all out of your head. No wrong answers here.

  • What do you do that makes you feel busy?
  • What is on your plate?
  • Does it really need to be?
  • How effective is it really?
  • Do you enjoy it?
  • Why are you really doing it?

After you write it all down on a piece of paper, determine what activities you could eliminate.

Don’t stop there… dig deep: What would be the impact of eliminating one or two things on the list?

While you might forego something you think is important, would there be an equal or greater benefit to not doing it?

Once you take your inventory, be prepared to share it with others in your life and let them know you are going to be making some changes.  Some people may not agree with you, and that’s ok.

You know what’s right for you so stick to your new plan and try it for 30 days.

#2 Be present in the midst of chaos.

You have a lot on your plate as an entrepreneurial woman – relationships, family, finances… all the life stuff, and then there’s the business stuff – sales, marketing, branding, strategy…

While you have a lot on your plate, try to focus on what is right in front of you rather than thinking about the next thing – Shiny Object Syndrome anyone?

If you’ve not heard that term before, it basically means you’re easily distracted and/or that you give up easily, like that time you created a whole course, sent out one invite, and no one came, and you thought you failed?

STOP switching gears prematurely or your engine will burnout! Keep going steady and surely!

Present, not future. If you find you have a lot to get through in a day, take each thing as it comes and keep breathing through it.

Let your breath be a reminder to your mind to stay present. Practice Yoga, better yet, YIN Yoga – healing of heart and mind.

It takes practice to train your mind to stay in the present, but give it a try.

At least while you are busy being busy, you can be breathing and keeping your body in a more relaxed state of being.

#3 Focus on what you do best and what you enjoy most.

Stop trying to be everything and do everything.

Figure out what you really need to be doing and do that.

Like Oprah says, you gotta know why you’re doing anything and why you’re anywhere.

Keep your objective in mind in everything you are and do.

If you’re in business for yourself, figure out your unique skills and talents and focus in on what you do best rather than trying to do things that really are not your natural skill set.

Me, I learned so much about building a business from scratch from my MBA and CMA/CPA, as well as my coaches – Michelle Stonhill, Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi.

And while I’m building out a business blueprint mastermind, my Make It Happen Mentorship Program is focused on getting you to peak performance first.

You need to have the right energy and the right mindset if you want to make it in this entrepreneurial world.

You can have the best business strategy, but if you are too scared or too unsure, or worse, unclear about what you really want and are working towards, you will keep spinning.

This is about honing in on what you are really good at and what you enjoy, and leaving the rest to someone else.

In your personal life, it might mean giving up some things that even though you think they are important or even fun, they don’t ultimately lead to more peace and pleasure.

Things like partying all night or mowing your lawn or grocery shopping – you can eliminate or delegate, especially when it frees you up for more.

Here’s a question – How much is your time worth vs. paying someone to do it?

#4 Remember you are a human-being, not a human-doing.

You are not meant to go 24-7 at 100 kilometres per hour.

You are not a machine. Your body needs to refuel. Your mind needs to rest.

Sometimes it’s the rest and the non-busyness that scares us.

We can start to wonder what we’ll find out about ourselves if we slow down. Maybe we even feel anxious about what we have or have not accomplished at a particular point in time.

What if everything happens for you and not to you?

I want you to keep this in mind, and that when things frightens us that’s actually the Universe, God, whatever you believe in, that’s a blessing in disguise and a push towards what we have asked for.

Fears are usually worth investigating and who knows?

You might discover something new about yourself.

I hope these strategies have helped. Keep me posted on how your 30 day challenge goes, and remember you can always join my free group: Life Strategies with Nat for the Entrepreneurial Woman.

Much love,
