Go ahead, do something new! What’s the worst that could happen?

Ok, so if you’ve been reading my blog, and you know a little about me, then you know that I’m all about living it up and helping you get past what’s holding you back so you can live it up too.

You know that I am now living it up because I put myself first, do what I love, and because I’m always up for a challenge.

Do it scared, right?

What does ‘do it scared’ mean for you?

Quitting your job to go traveling while starting a new business, doing something you love, even if it means less money coming in?

Living in a new country or learning a new language, even if you’ve never done either before?

Waking up at 6:30am to go to spin class 3 times a week, even though you’re not a morning person?

So what?

So what if it’s scary, you don’t feel like doing it, or you have no idea what you’re doing will pan out? I mean, why do we do anything?

To LIVE! To FEEL ALIVE!

Living like we mean it!

We eat to live, work to live, travel to live, exercise to live, get sunshine to live… every aspect, every part of us, mind, body and soul… that kinda living that makes us jump out of bed in the morning!

It’s why when we’re stuck we can feel like we can’t do anything; we stay stuck because we’re scared. And when we’re not scared we’re lost or confused, even doubt ourselves because our thoughts keep us going in circles.

Bad habits we picked up to “help” us manage these feelings like drinking, binge eating, or pure disregard for exercise start showing their effects.

We feel tired, unmotivated, and for lack of a better word: meh.

I’ll tell you one thing, if you wanna snap out of it, you can’t keep doing what you’ve been doing, or else you’re going to stay in this state of stuck.

If you want different, you have to do different.

Fall in love and enjoy the ride

You’ve got to put yourself first.

Self-love is an action not a state of feeling good. You gotta start the healing and rejuvenation process, even when you don’t want to.

Daydream about your favourite day, think of what you used to love doing as a kid even.

Making mud pies? Make some avocado brownies tonight, see what happens…or regular brownies too… baby steps, right?!

Writing? Try writing a short story, see what happens.

Going to the park? Go for a stroll or a bike ride and bring a book with you. Or hit the gym or the library if it’s too cold for the park.

Playing board games? Host a games’ night and reconnect with friends you keep missing because it’s never the ‘right’ time to schedule anything.

The magic is in the feeling and the power of thought, the rest is up to you.

Say Yes, and let’s see what happens

When I read Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes and You are a Badass by Jennifer Sincero, well, let’s just say I got some perspective!

There are so many other books out there but I chose these two because they were turnkeys for me.

It’s like this: You never know what can happen unless you try, but if you’re always saying no, how can you say you’re trying?

Even if it means not rushing home to put your PJs on and going to an event instead… or not believing you have the skills or expertise to go for ‘that’ job and apply anyway.

Sure, you might end up better off staying in and watching Netflix OR you might end up having the best, most random night of your life, meeting ‘the one’ in the elevator of the building your event is in.

So, you might end up better off staying at the same job since you know everyone and it’s a steady paycheque OR you might end up starting a business doing what you love, using your free time to travel, living the life of your dreams.

As long as it’s not at your expense, like you force yourself to go to the gym when you’re not feeling well… that’s not what I’m saying… it’s all about balance.

Here’s what I always ask myself:

  1. What’s the worst thing that could happen?
  2. What’s the best thing that could happen?
  3. Why do I really not want to go?

Challenge

Do one thing that scares you every day for the next 7 days.

Before you start, write down how you feel.

Brainstorm 10 things that you want to do, but you haven’t been for whatever reason.

Pick 7 and slot them in your calendar.

After the 7 days, write down how you feel, and then compare it to how you felt when you started.
